rooting - Getting there
Introduction .: History .: Preparation .: Getting There
Getting Back .: Tips 'n Tricks .: Mob List
There are three ways into the prooving grounds, The moat, Decanters and Diamond gemstones. Each way has its own advantages and disadvantages as well as dangers, this is where we will look at getting into the proving grounds itself.
Getting onto the Isle: You will really need a sextant for this and some form of levitation as you will first have to cross the reef to get onto the isle, head to spot 1268, 748 this is the start of the reef, the route through the reef is a fairly simple one, but in general, you will need to head NE followed by a set of NW and then another set of NE rooms this is followed by an almost straight run onto the pier, Knights of Chaos have a very good map of the reef with a path marked out for you (look in the maps section), this is what I always use.
The Moat, Perhaps one of the most feared areas in the game, the moat is made up of twenty five pk rooms alternating between NPK and CPK type rooms with one non-pk room towards the end, to cross the moat you will need to run 13 rooms west, 9 north and 1 west, this will put you in the non-pk room near the end, you will now have to kill a shadow demon for the key, it will be upto 3 rooms south of you, be carefull at least one of these is CPK, once you have the key looted search the 3rd room south of the non-pk room, there should be an exit to the west, unlock this door and you are out of the moat and out of PK.
Now you simply have to kill the hermit for the key, watch out in this area for falling boulders, and from his hut, move west and two south, search here for a down exit, go down and north and you are in PG itself and can save :)
Directions to get to the moat from the Pier:
Pier to Temple: 3e,1ne,1e,2ne,3n,3e,1n,4e,2n,2w,1n,8w, 15n,3e,1s,1e (this should be the Temple)
Temple to Drawbridge:1w,1n,3w,3s
Drawbridge to sign: 5s,8e,8e,6n,2d,3n,1e,1n
Sign to small isle: 1n,3w,3s,1w,1s,1w,1s,1w,1s
Small Isle to start of the moat: 1w,2e,1s,1w,2s,1w,1n,1w
Beginning of Moat to PG: 13w,9n,1w,3s hidden west locked door.
The advantages of crossing the moat is you can do this anytime you want and the risks remain the same (Slightly higher at night due to shift time), it is also free (unless you get cpk'ed) these are the main advantages of crossing the moat verses the other two methods.
The disadvantages of running the moat is mainly the chance of getting CPK'ed (The use of trunks and pouches can reduce your loss) and this could cost you a fair amount of gold depending on what you loose, if anything.
Decanters. In Rune temple there is an area called the cypts, from recall go west, all south, east and all down, north of you now is the start of the NPK rooms, you will need to go two north first (The first room is where the white marble statue repops) you are now in a safe room, from here to the hermit, you need to go north, all east, all north, all west and all north, the hermits room is NPK, this whole area is NPK and full of agro mobs.
Advantages to running the crypt over the moat is the lack of CPK rooms you will need to cross, its also alot easier to get to than idra isle/the moat, while it can cost to get decanters (100-200k each) these are alot cheaper than diamond gemstones.
Disadvantages to running the crypt is its location, because its in a major area you will often find pk'ers there who often delight in killing your form just because they can, you must also be aware the hermit will only make one portal to PG every 24 hours (Real time), the mobs in the crypt hit alot harder than the ones in the moat so you will need to wear more armor or have the crypt cleared before you make your attempt. I would not recomend anyone under level 120 attempting this or characters with less than 1000 hit points unless you can get the crypt cleared.
Diamond Gemstones, the most expennsive warpstone in the game, the diamond gemstone (Between 800,000 and 1,500,000 gold) will take you straight into PG, you will arrive one north of the safe room, each diamond has three charges and can be burried on the last charge to take a large group, diamonds can either be purchased from players via the vendors, auction or private sale or if your lucky enough to be able to kill him you can loot a diamond straight from Simon Bloodbame himself.
The advantages to using a diamond are many, you have a total of three trips to PG two solo trips where you hold and use the diamond and if you wish a third trip where you bury the diamond to make a portal and take your whole clan or alliance, you avoid ALL PK going this way, so you can take lower level characters who might otherwise not make it, unlike decanter runs you can make the portals whenever you like.
The only real disadvantage with diamonds are their cost or being prepared to sit for hours at a mob that only repops every six hours and even then the chance of looting a diamond is rare. As long as you make your last trip with your clan members you should easily cover the gold cost of the diamond.
